Deacon Phil Gregory
I was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons on February 7, 2004. I attended
Deacon school in the Chicago Diocese for three years, after completing a
formal discernment process for two years. I had felt the call to the
priesthood since I was in eighth grade, yet it was not until I went through
the formal parish discernment process that I realized that I was to be in
servant ministry as an ordained deacon. I really feel called to the ministry
of pastoral care.
I was raised on a dairy farm just three miles west of St. John's. I graduated
from Naperville Central High School, and have eight years of schooling beyond
High School, including three years of Deacon School.
I was a supervisor at a reform school for boys, and I taught school for six
years. I have been a self employed farrier, as well as a rodeo cowboy where I
USED TO ride bare-back bucking horses near Dallas, Texas. I have been a
Dupage County electrician for over 20 years.
As a child my family attended a small rural church. At that time it was
called Wheatland Salem Evangelical United Bretheran, but later united with
the Methodist Church. I joined the Episcopal church before marrying my
wife,Debbie. I am the proud father of three daughters and one son, that bring
me great joy.
